Working Against Violence Support Service (WAVSS)

Working Against Violence Support Service (WAVSS) provides information, support and counselling to women and children about domestic and family violence. Our vision at WAVSS is to work towards the eradication of all forms of violence against women through the provision of services and continuing our community awareness campaigns and events.

WAVVS provide a safe and caring environment, where information and options are provided and choices are supported without judgement. Some of our services include: crisis support; advocacy, advice and information; counselling for women and children; groupwork; court support; referral; community education; and leadership.

WAVSS has broadened its services to provide improved and integrated support to vulnerable families through the Helping Out Families (HOF) initiative. This has been achieved by forming collaborative partnerships with government and non-government sector services.

This program enables earlier and more effective intervention, addressing a greater variety of needs, enhancing our domestic and family violence response. The HOF program can provide additional support services including health care needs, advocacy, education and training.

WAVSS has a large range of domestic and family violence resources. Women are welcome to speak with our staff and either arrange to collect resources in person or request that they be sent to a safe address. Our website also has a a wide range of fact sheets available.
