Aboriginal Family Legal Service Southern Queensland, also known as AFLSSQ, is an Indigenous Corporation that provides legal and other support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in Southern Queensland.

Our vision is to understand, respond and prevent violence to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in Southern Queensland to live safely in their own homes and communities.

Our mission is to develop and deliver culturally-appropriate, high-quality services, to make and maintain inclusive relationships and collaborative partnerships, and to advance and affect practices that empower women, men and children to make informed decisions about families, communities and lives in ways that are respectful, responsible and right for them and their communities.

Healing Words Therapy

Workshops for victims of trauma, displacement, mental health issues, domestic violence, child sexual abuse and workshops for workers in the human services industry.

Healing Words Therapy workshops are Creative Writing for Healing programs facilitated for the purpose of bringing about a cathartic release, healing and sometimes closure for the participants. It can be done in any language as the writing is never read out loud unless someone wishes to share.

The workshop can be provided in a group setting of up to 20 people per session or on a one-on-one setting.

Victims Legal Service Queensland

“We are a law firm specialising in assisting victims of crime to apply for financial assistance to help with recovery from an act of violence. Eligible victims may receive assistance with medical and counselling expenses, travel to attend relevant appointments, the cost of damaged clothing and loss of earnings, along with a recognition payment to acknowledge the harm a victim has suffered. There is also a component for a victim’s legal expenses which covers our fees for acting on our clients’ behalf so there are no out of pocket costs for our clients to apply.”

RUBY – Rise Up Be Yourself

RUBY “Rise Up Be Yourself” is a physical fitness program run at the Roma PCYC for women that have been or are currently affected by Domestic Violence. The class is run by one of our qualified fitness instructors and the class is FREE for participants. We encourage participants to bring a support person with them especially the first visit and children are also welcome.

Far West Indigenous Family Violence Service

Far West Indigenous Family Violence Service is a service funded by the Department of Communities to assist individuals and families including children who are affected by domestic and family violence. (FWIFVS) is managed by Cunnamulla Aboriginal Corporation for Health.  This service provides advice, support and referrals to the appropriate service providers, for victims and witnesses of domestic and family violence.  Supporting clients to obtain safe accommodation and coordinating community education.
